3 MORE Reasons to Choose the AutoCamp X Suite

Before staying in an AutoCamp X Suite, I wrote that there were 4 Reasons to Choose the AutoCamp X Suite over the AutoCamp Custom Airstreams.

Now that I’ve had the pleasure of staying in an X Suite, I found there are 3 more reasons to choose the X Suite.

Storage

There is extensively more storage in the X Suite.

The bathroom is about the same as the Airstream. Plenty of counter space and decent vanity cabinets. The kitchen also had about the same storage as the Airstream.

The big differences were in the living room and bedroom. While very narrow, there was a terrific cabinet under the very large, beautiful TV in the living room. The cabinet provided a nice shelf for things you want to grab quickly like your dog’s leash, your car keys, etc. The cabinet, which narrow, provided nice storage even though one section contained the electric panel and modem/router.

The same skinny cabinet also continued into the bedroom. Then, there was a fantastic closet with drawers in the bedroom. There were 2 robes for us in the section for hanging clothes. This was far larger than the “hanging clothes” section in the AutoCamp Custom Airstreams.

There was a ton, relatively, of cabinet and drawer space. We felt we’d be super comfortable staying for an extended period. There were also hooks for hanging jackets, making it easy to hang them up or grab them on the go.

Split System Air Conditioning and Heating

There are 2 overhead sources for air conditioning and heat. These are known as “split systems”.

They run off of one compressor, which is at the front of the X Suite on the exterior. They run off of individual thermostats.

Why are the split systems another reason to choose an X Suite? They’re quiet! Whisper quiet. Unfortunately, the air conditioning overhead unit in the AutoCamp Custom Airstreams is extremely loud. Check out our video:

We were very pleased with the split system, and it’s definitely a benefit of the X Suite.

Longer Stays

The X Suite is clearly designed for longer stays than the AutoCamp Custom Airstreams. They are 275 square feet. With all the storage, the cooktop for stove top cooking when it’s raining, snowing, or bitterly cold or windy outside, the X Suite is far more inviting for longer stays.

Check out all the storage in this video:

Reasons to Choose an X Suite over an Airstream:

  • Split systems air conditioning/heat – more like a hotel suite than a camper. It’s quiet!
  • Lots more storage.
  • A cook top / stove top – important for bad weather when you don’t want to be making breakfast outdoors!
  • TV in the living room (and a big, beautiful one!) .
  • More privacy in the bedroom, which has a full door
  • You can cook when it’s rainy/snowing or terribly cold outside.
  • When you’ve got some one (or two) sleeping on the futon

We’re X Suite fans. We’re planning our California AutoCamp Roadtrip. In that trip, we’ll be staying in an X Suite, an Airstream, and a Cabin. We’ll have a lot more to say and add after that trip!

  1. This is awesome! Super helpful review. One question: do the windows in these suites open? Kind of hard to tell from photos. Thanks!!

    • Sorry for the delay replying, Todd. The only windows that might open are the ones in the bedroom. Not the full length but a section over the bed. I’m trying to remember if the one in the bathroom opens…but I don’t think so. This is a good question and point – it’s not as many windows or windows that open as the Airstream. Still, the X Suite is beautiful! Again – if the weather is bad or cold, the X Suite is the way to go.
