AutoCamp Asheville Bookings and the Bambi Airstream

Well, fiiiinnnnaalllly, AutoCamp is talking about AutoCamp Asheville. In their October newsletter, AutoCamp says:

AutoCamp Asheville Location

AutoCamp Asheville will be located at the former campground of French Broad River Campground.

The French Broad River Campground – and the new AutoCamp Asheville – is located at 1030 Old Marshall Hwy, Asheville, NC 28804.

AutoCamp Asheville – Bookings

AutoCamp Asheville is LATE, but we’re very happy they’re getting close to taking bookings.

It was originally scheduled to open mid-2023.
Then it was scheduled for late 2023.
It was last updated July 2, 2023 to: Now scheduled for “SPRING 2024”.

Asheville is one of 3 properties that were supposed to open in 2023, but ended up not even making the right year.

So, we’re thrilled to hear they seem to finally be ready to take bookings. Given that, it’s likely Asheville is opening in spring. Given the location in the Blue Ridge mountains and winter weather, we think AutoCamp Asheville bookings will be for dates starting April 1 or later.

AutoCamp Asheville – New Bambi Airstream

We reported a looong time ago that AutoCamp Asheville is going to offer a Bambi Airstream.

Which version of the Airstream Bambi will AutoCamp offer at AutoCamp Asheville? Let’s look at the 4 lengths and floorplans (click image to enlarge):

Again, AutoCamp is trying to provide:

a) an iconic and classic Airstream experience

b) a more affordable alternative to the custom Airstream and X suites that provides…

c) a toilet and shower

The Bambi is a lower level of the Caravel. They have identical lengths and floorplans. However, the Caravel starts at $16,000 more than the Bambi. What accounts for this difference? “Finishes”. The Caravel has more luxurious finishes – think fixtures and materials – and also technology and electronics.

AutoCamp Asheville Bookings and Bambi – Conclusion

By going with the Bambi, we can see AutoCamp is trying to get a lower price point. It’ll be interesting to see if they are going to offer custom Bambi’s or production Bambi’s. I believe it will be a commercial type Bambi – the kind you could personally purchase at an Airstream dealer.

Personally, I do hope it’s the 22′ commercial Bambi. Even though I travel with a spouse and dog, I’d try a 22′ Bambi for 3 nights when we make our booking.

Speaking of booking, if they open earlier than April, we’ll go. If April 1, we won’t get there until later in the month. We already have a group of friends and maybe family who are interested.
