AutoCamp Asheville Review of Campsite Locations – Section 1, The River

The lower row on the map (left in the video) is Section 1 – this is along the river. The upper row (right in the video) is Section 2.
JACKPOT. Right out of the gate, this is where you want to be, and it’s also where the clubhouse is, of course – ON the river, facing nothing but that gorgeous, huge, wide French Broad River.
We have NEVER said – in any of our reviews – just flat out go for the Vista Level pricing. We’re saying it here. Pay for it, say thank you, enjoy. Go for the Vista Airstream – whether it’s the 31′ custom Airstream or the 20′ Bambi.
AutoCamp Asheville Review of Campsite Locations – Section 2, Almost The River

Section 2 is directly across the dirt road from Section 1. It has terrific views of the French Broad River – when you’re outdoors.

You see this large window, below? Those are bathroom windows. They are frosted. They do not have a view. This is a Section 1 camper. Their bathroom faces the road. In the video and photo, above, you’ll see the Section 2 campers have their bathroom window facing the river.
Why? Look at the trailer hitch. It was the only way to position those campers. It’s really unfortunate, but not the end of the world…read on…

You can only see the river from your fire pit or picnic table. You might have some views out your side windows, but you won’t have direct views.
This is a view out our cabin from the couch – nice view! The Airstreams won’t have this view.
Now keep in mind – these are CHEAPER than the ones right on the river, of course. We did a quick check and found the difference to be $55 – $60 a night – in the shoulder season. It might be even more in high season. You’ll be spending a lot of time around your fire pit or picnic table, so we still very much recommend this section. Just be aware. #KnowBeforeYouGo
AutoCamp Asheville Review of Campsite Locations – Section 3, Bambis on The River

We were super excited to see the Airstream Bambi at AutoCamp Asheville, and they did not disappoint!
The location is absolutely fantastic – right on the French Broad River with the table and seats having a fantastic view. As we mentioned in our AutoCamp Asheville Review, the bed is small. This is really the only downside. This is a perfect example of #KnowBeforeYouGo. If you’re good with a small bed, you’ll LOVE the Bambi and its location on the property!
AutoCamp Asheville Review of Campsite Locations – Section 4, Up The Big Hill

We discussed in our AutoCamp Asheville Review that in addition to the Airstreams and Cabins on the river, there is another section to AutoCamp Asheville – the UPHILL sections 4 and 5. I keep saying the hill is steeeeeeep. How steep is it? They will shuttle you up and down in this really sweet VW electric van! All you have to do is send a text to get a ride.

Nice! But what about the campsite locations up that hill in Section 4? Well, there is one section that is fantastic and another one that is just ok. Have a look:
So it turns out that the lower half of Section 4 mostly has terrific river views and views of the mountains. The upper-most section isn’t so hot – no views except power lines.
AutoCamp Asheville Review of Campsite Locations – Section 5, Up The Big Hill
We’re still up the hill here in section 5.

This section has the Basecamps and 31′ Custom Airstreams. The Basecamps are super sweet if you’ve got a group or family. You get a 31 footer PLUS a 20 foot Bambi. You can technically sleep up to 8 people – 4 in each – each with a bathroom. However, it’ll be tight. The futon in the 31′ really isn’t designed for 2 adults. The Bambi bed is small, as we’ve discussed. Still, this is a great option for families or friends.
AutoCamp Asheville Review of Campsite Locations – Conclusion
AutoCamp Asheville is the ONLY location for which we say: GO FOR THE VISTA level (Section 1) Airstreams! To get the same view, if you’re ok with the small bed, the Bambis are a price performer! The X Suite Cabins are positioned very, very well. You can see the river out your entrance door. You can’t go wrong with that location. Those uphill sections – 4 and 5 – are for people who want to be far removed from the clubhouse and lawn. Personally, we’d want to be in Sections 1, 2, or 3.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at AutoCamp Asheville. We wish them the best of luck. We hope to come back in a few years to see how things are progressing!
