The Falmouth, MA location of AutoCamp Cape Cod has been plagued by serious problems with their septic system. The campground is located in an environmentally delicate area of Sippewissett Marsh, which eventually opens up to Buzzards Bay.
In February 2022, AutoCamp was $10,000 for operating out of compliance with regulations concerning its septic system.
According to CapeNews.net, “The health board was first notified in August of pumping and baffle issues . . . Part of the reason the AutoCamp learned of the failed pump was due to odor complaints…”
These are reviews from August 2021. There were also complaints from nearby neighbors about the smell:
During our stay in early July 2022, we also noted very strong septic smell. In our review of camp site locations, we noted the sites to avoid to be away from the septic treatment area.
At their July 18, 2022 meeting, Falmouth Health Department decided that
“if compliance is not achieved by August 29, the occupancy would be reduced to 0. At minimum, 8 days ending on August 29.”
THIS IS HUGE.
AutoCamp Cape Cod could be shut down on August 29, 2022 for a minimum of 8 days. This would impact Labor Day Weekend.
We will continue to watch the news. We hope for AutoCamp’s sake – and those who have reservations! – that they are able to get this septic problem fixed. We think AutoCamp is a fantastic experience, and the staff at Cape Cod are wonderful. Hopefully, this issue can finally get fixed.
AUGUST 30 UPDATE
While still not compliant, it seems AutoCamp has dodged a bullet and doesn’t have to shut down. However, they’ll have a $25,000 big issue: they are required to pump out ALL “effluent” until the problem is fixed.
Pumping will be done between 8 and 10 AM. This sounds to be done on a daily basis. Supposedly, the odor would not be too much of an issue because they would be pumping treated effluent, not raw sewage.
The next update from AutoCamp Cape Cod will be October 3, but they are in a world of hurt. They’ve got a great property with a fantastic staff. Hopefully, they can get to the bottom of this and get it fixed!
