AutoCamp Catskills Campsite Locations Review

Published on November 30, 2022 | Modified on January 5, 2024

We had the pleasure of visiting AutoCamp Catskills recently, and we took the opportunity to review every Catskills campsite location for all Airstreams, X Suites, tents, and basecamps. Below, you’ll find out AutoCamp Catskills Campsite Locations Review.

AutoCamp Catskills is on 37 acres with 85 campsites, comprised of:

  • 65 Airstreams
  • 10 cabins (combo of X suites and actual cabins)
  • 10 BaseCamps, which is a combo of an Airstream plus a Luxury Tent.

Have a quick look at the back of the clubhouse, the fire pit, and the lawn:

Levels of Lodging

Like AutoCamp Cape Cod, there are 3 levels for each category of lodging: Classic, Premium, and Vista. As we learned, there is no difference in the accommodation itself, it’s all about location.

As you’ll see from the property map, below, AutoCamp Catskills is a fairly large campground. Compare it to the other AutoCamp locations, and you’ll see that it’s actually the largest acreage, but not the most campssites, making not too dense. This was nice to see since AutoCamp Cape Cod is far more dense.

While you can’t book a specific campsite, you can request it. More within your control: you can make decisions on whether you want to pay for Premium and Vista locations.

Note: the playground is not listed on the official map. It is located to the back and right of the cabin in 153.

AutoCamp Catskills Classic Premium Vista Explained

Before looking at the sections, you first need to understand that there are 3 levels of pricing at AutoCamp: Classic, Premium, and Vista. Classic will be the least private and less desirable locations. Premium are better locations with more space between campsites and therefore privacy. Vista are the most private with best scenery. However, you’ll see in my campsite by campsite review, it’s not always best to book Premium or Vista.

Review of CampSites at AutoCamp Catskills

Section 1

AutoCamp Catskills Property Map 1

Section 1 is at the back right of the property. It’s fantastic! There are a combination of X Suites, Airstreams, and Basecamps – Airstreams including a tent with them for families.

On one hand, it was wise of them to put the Airstreams tucked away, as you see 409, 411, and 413 are since they will accommodate larger groups or families.

When you first enter section 1, on the left is an Accessible X Suite at 322. This is one of the least private locations on the property. Those with mobility issues may like that it is super close to the Clubhouse.

X Suite 323 backs right up to 325 and 327, so I do not recommend it. Notice that 323 and 325 are “yellow” but 327 is orange. That orange indicates “premium,” and it’s worth it if you can get it. Great location! 329 is a Classic Airstream – terrific site privacy and views, but you’ve got a basecamp next to you. Families = potential noise.

Section 2

AutoCamp Catskills Property Map 2

Section 2 starts with 5 X Suites on the left. 321 and 319 are accessible. 317 and 315 are Premium. 315 is Vista. There is no difference in the view between any of these, so don’t pay for Premium or Vista. It may feel awkward booking an accessible suite. We explained when we booked that we didn’t need it if they wanted to move us, but we weren’t going to pay $50+ more per night for a Premium. AutoCamp Catskills didn’t seem concerned about having us – or the people in 322 – in accessible suites even though we all volunteered to be moved.

On the right are 306, 308, and 310, all Airstreams. They back to the parking area, behind a fence (see video). They are Classic level. This is a decent location.

309 and 311 are Premium Airstreams, and these are great locations, backing to the woods.

305 and 307, unfortunately, back up to tents. These should have just been bundled as Basecamps. The same issue is true for 301 and 303. These tents are far from the clubhouse, for those who care, but they are staring at the Airstream and their fire pits.

Section 3

AutoCamp Catskills Property Map 3

101 is Classic because of the parking lot views in front. Behind, it’s wooded and nice, as is the case for 103 – 115. These are all Premium Airstreams, and they’re all worth it! Check the video to see 113, 115, and 117 in particular. 113 is rather tight for a Premium. 115 could be a Vista, as is 117, making 115 a great “buy”. 117 is awesome! One of the best locations in the campground.

102 – 118: these all backup to a bit of lawn/tree area shared with 141 – 153. There is a small trampoline thing in there – see the video – that would worry me based on our experience with kids using hammocks as toys at AutoCamp Cape Cod. They were unsupervised and loud, and no one was stopping them. These are all Classic level.

Section 4

In the video, I erroneously mentioned that 119 is a Premium. It’s not, it’s a Vista. 119 – 133 are all fantastic locations.

In the video, I highlight 123 and 125. These could easily be Vista level, but you’re only paying for Premium level.

135 – 139 backup to other Airstreams you’ll see in section 5, below. There is decent distance. These are good locations for the Classic level.

140 is a so-so location. It’s on a busy corner, approaching the cabins which sleep 6 people.

Section 5

AutoCamp Catskills Property Map 5

Airstreams! This is a fantastic, separated section of all Airstreams. All levels are here: 201, 203, and 205 are Classic because they back – through trees – to Airstreams 135, 137, and 139.

207, 209, 211, and 213 are Premiums and deservedly so. They back to the woods and back to the woods.

213 is, inexplicably, a Vista. It doesn’t make sense and shouldn’t be a Vista.

218 and 216 are on the way to the maintenance sheds. Neither is bad, especially 216, as it’s very separate from the other campsites.

Section 6

AutoCamp Catskills Property Map 6

Section 6 is dominated by cabins. Cabins are only available at AutoCamp Catskills and AutoCamp Yosemite at this point. Like the X Suites, they’re built on a trailer platform out of what appears to be a storage container type structure. Unlike the X streams, they have a lower level of luxury as they’re intended to pack a lot of people in there. Upon walking in, the front of the cabin has a futon facing a large screen TV. Just behind, open concept, is a much larger kitchen and also a table and chairs for eating. Behind there are bunkbeds and bathroom followed by a private bedroom with a queen bed. The cabins sleep up to 6 people, which is my primary concern: noise.

As you can see from the section map, there are 10 cabins and 4 Airstreams in this section. 141 – 144, 146, and 153 are Premium level. 145, 147, 149, are 151 are Vista level. While the Vistas have a bit more room and back to lovely woods, they are still in a tight area, overall.

153, like Airstream 154, is super close to the playground, maintenance buildings, and parking, like 101 in section 3. Not ideal, though families with kids would like to be near the playground.

AutoCamp Catskills Campsite Locations Review – Conclusion

AutoCamp Catskills has some fantastic campsites for Airstreams, X Suites, Cabins, Basecamps, and Tents. As was the case at AutoCamp Cape Cod, the 3 levels of Classic, Premium, and Vista are all about – and only about – location. A Classic Airstream is the exact same Airstream as a Vista Airstream. The question is: do you want to pay for the difference in location? Hopefully, you’ll find these descriptions and video tours helpful in making your decision. I promise I’ll get better at the videos in the future!
