AutoCamp initially projected AutoCamp Hill Country to open “mid 2023”. There have been COUNTLESS delays, which we are documenting here.
Why is this news? Because AutoCamp is missing their projected date on all 4 locations to be opened in 2023. Read about their hope to open 100 AutoCamp locations within 10 years but missing the mark on all 4 2023 properties.
As of now (July 2025), we are reading the new date will be “Q2 2026,” according to Teneo, a company that works with businesses to find corporate meeting spaces. They list all the AutoCamp locations in their portfolio of spaces.

AutoCamp Hill Country Location, Airstreams, X Suites & More
AutoCamp is being very deliberate and strategic about expansion and aim to have locations within a half day’s drive of the top 25 major metro areas (my emphasis) across the U.S., as reported in Indepenedent.com.
So, the choice of a location in the “Hill Country” of Texas makes sense when you have a big picture look at the location of Fredericksburg, Texas in relation to the major cities in Texas:
Fredericksburg is known as the “unofficial capital of food and wine” in Texas, according to Wine Spectator. It looks like in addition to good food and wineries, there is a vibrant scene of arts and culture, outdoor activities, museum and history, and good live music. AutoCamp Reviews & News has been trying to get to San Antonio for years, and we’ll certainly be pairing a trip to San Antonio with our trip to Hill Country, likely in Spring of 2024.
shorttermrentalz.com states that AutoCamp Hill Country will open the largest AutoCamp to date approximately 80 miles west of Austin in Fredericksburg, Texas.
AutoCamp Hill Country will feature 120 total accommodations:
- 75 Airstreams
- 15 X Suites
- 20 BaseCamps
- 10 BaseCamp Minis
The largest AutoCamp properties, so far, is AutoCamp Catskills on 37 acres with 85 campsites. Given that AutoCamp Hill Country will have 150% of the campsites, it will be interesting to see if they have 150% of the property – or hopefully even more to allow for more privacy between campsites.
We will be keeping tabs on the opening of AutoCamp Hill Country. In the meantime, remember that AutoCamp Zion opens in early 2023 first then AutoCamp Asheville in mid-2023. For late 2023, AutoCamp will also open their Sequoia location. (July 2025 update: every single property was late opening!).
AutoCamp Hill Country (Texas) Details: Location July 2025 Update
AutoCamp Hill Country will be located at 7041 N State Hwy 16, Fredericksburg, TX. This is about 1:40 from Austin and 2:00 from the Austin Airport. The location is just east of downtown Fredericksburg. Fredericksburg seems to have a lot going on. Of course, it’s in wine country, but there is also history, museums, shopping, restaurants, and more.
The location is on a 122 acre lot that sold in 2021. It was previously empty land that seemed to be very wet – and has been filled in.
Historic images on Google Earth shows that the land alternates between being very wet and very dry. In 2006, the land looked like this:

Remember, AutoCamp announced in 2022 that Hill Country would open in 2023. The image, above, is from 2024. Head scratcher, right? We’ve been documenting aaaaalllll the many, many delays in the new locations AutoCamp said it was going to open back in 2022. Not one of them opened in time.
AutoCamp Hill Country (Texas) Details: Meeting Spaces
Again, Teneo’s focus is on corporate meetings, so it’s no surprise that they list there will be 2500 square feet of meeting space. This will be just one meeting room with 2 “break out spaces.” What they don’t mention is the potential outdoor space that can also be used for meetings and breakouts.
AutoCamp Hill Country (Texas) Details: Conclusion
Right now (July 2025), the focus is on the horrific flooding in Texas Hill Country and the potential flooding problem at multiple AutoCamp locations, including AutoCamp Hill Country. Will these floods delay the opening yet again? Will AutoCamp stop buying properties so close to rivers?
