AutoCamp Hilton Partnership, Hyatt Under Canvas Partnership

Earlier this year, we covered the AutoCamp Hilton partnership. More details have emerged in those six months, and we’ll cover that here. Additionally, Under Canvas, one of the glamping competitors to AutoCamp is partnering with Hyatt. We’ve got those details, as well.

Autocamp Hilton Partnership, Hyatt Under Canvas Partnership: Big Hotels Add Glamping

Why are two of the biggest hotel brands in the United States partnering up with two of the biggest and most popular glamping resort brands?

In part, the partnerships help the brands to simply expand their numbers without building new properties.

According to Karryon:

This play for the outdoors signals a growing trend among global hotel groups to diversify and stay ahead in a competitive hospitality landscape.

It’s a win-win relationship where major hotel chains can offer a more diverse selection of stays for their loyalty program members, while the boutique players gain an amplified reach to an already qualified and engaged audience.

It unlocks new and distinctive experiences for members and travel advisors to benefit from easily accessible and commissionable bookings for luxury outdoor resorts and upscale campsites.

Small Luxury Hotels’ Senior Vice President Mark Wong told Karryon the brand was assembling a new collection that will be announced soon and that Under Canvas represented a “very interesting space, the alternative tented space – one to watch”.

Over the past few years, we’ve seen an increased interest and desire for intimacy and escapism and connection to nature – largely due to the mental and physical benefits this type of travel offers,” he told Karryon.

The hotel industry has done a lot to respond to this shift and has adapted and developed to provide new and better ways in which it can help guests to bond deeper with the power of nature.

Hyatt Under Canvas Partnership

Similar to the AutoCamp and Hilton relationship, World of Hyatt members can now earn and redeem points at Under Canvas’ 13 outdoor resorts across the US.

World of Hyatt members can earn five base points per US$1 spent on room rates at Under Canvas camps, as well as at the group’s luxury outdoor resort ULUM Moab in Utah, according to World of Hyatt.

Commenting on the news, Mark Vondrasek, Chief Commercial Officer, Hyatt, said:

Travellers are looking for new and unique experiences to reconnect with nature in off-the-beaten-path locations. By adding these luxury outdoor camps to World of Hyatt, we are bringing more memorable travel experiences for our guests and members.

Hyatt offers one of the fastest-growing luxury portfolios globally and with the inclusion of these incredible Under Canvas camps in World of Hyatt, we continue to double down on this focus and bring immense value to our rapidly growing member base.

Covid Blessings: AutoCamp Hilton Partnership, Hyatt Under Canvas Partnership

Both AutoCamp and Under Canvas benefited from America’s desire to be outdoors since the 2020 Covid shutdown.

According to census.gov:

Many fitness, recreation and other social activities moved outdoors when the pandemic began in 2020.

An estimated 7.1 million more Americans enjoyed an outdoor activity in 2020 – the first year of the pandemic – than in 2019, according to the Outdoor Industry Association’s 2021 Outdoor Participation Trends Report.

Future Marketing Insights notes:

The glamping market is predicted to surge at a CAGR of 11.9% during the forecast period. The industry is standing at USD 12.4 billion as of 2024 and is on its way forward to cross USD 39.9 billion by 2034.

Apart from inspiring tourists all around the world, glamping has solidified its status as a long-lasting trend.

Personally, our first glamping trip was Fall of 2021. We were missing travel terribly. We wanted to “go somewhere,” but we didn’t want to share lobbies, elevators, or any other indoor spaces. We found a camper, on site, at a KOA campground in Maine. We fell in love with glamping!

Their Airstreams, though, were not pet friendly. We weren’t leaving our girl at home! We took a camper through Outdoorsy, but I had a long love of Airstreams. Then, we found AutoCamp Cape Cod.

Since then, we’ve been to AutoCamp Catskills, AutoCamp Zion, AutoCamp Joshua Tree, and AutoCamp Russian River!

Coming soon, we’ll be looking at the demographics of whom AutoCamp is targeting. We’re not Gen Z, but we’re part of the other demographic being targeted.

Also coming soon, we’ll be visiting AutoCamp Asheville and early next year, we’ll be visiting the soon-to-be-opened AutoCamp Sequoia along with AutoCamp Yosemite – the last of the already open AutoCamps for us to visit.

Conclusion: AutoCamp Hilton Partnership, Hyatt Under Canvas Partnership

The AutoCamp Hilton partnership and the new Hyatt Under Canvas Partnership speak to the changing needs of travelers of all ages. Experiences matter. Quality time matters. Getting offline and into nature matters… as long as you have some luxury and comforts!

Covid taught us a great deal. Get outdoors. Value your personal space. TRAVEL.
