AutoCamp is Dog Friendly

Published on February 22, 2023 | Modified on October 25, 2023

AutoCamp is dog friendly. For $75, you can take your dog to AutoCamp. All of them: Cape Cod, Catskills, Joshua Tree, Russian River, Sequoia, and Yosemite. It is not $75 a night, it’s $75 per visit. Let’s look at the details of what makes AutoCamp dog friendly, beyond the flat price to have your pup – or pups – with you.

AutoCamp is Dog Friendly

We like to travel with our dog, Rory. She’s 28 pounds, now 5 years old, and everyone thinks she’s a Jack Russell mix.

She’s not. She’s 22% Chihuahua, 20% Shih Tzu, 15% Lhasa Apso, and then she’s really big dogs: 14% Lab, 8% Chow, 8% German Shepherd, and 5% Rottweiler. The rest is “super mutt.” We said they just should have led with that! Also…we call her our “Rotty mix” 🙂

As you may have gleaned, she is our love, and she’s a fantastic traveler! So, we like to take her with us when possible. Between looking for dog friendly, human friendly trips, along with my obsession with Airstreams, AutoCamp became a natural fit for us.

We’ve been to 2 AutoCamps so far: Cape Cod and Catskills. We have trips to Joshua Tree and Russian River coming up. Bottom line: AutoCamp is dog friendly. You’re allowed to bring 2 dogs with you, 50 pounds max each. Of course, there or some rules to follow that are quite reasonable (pick up after your dog!).

For $75 per visit – not per night, like hotels! – we were able to bring Rory with us. She was allowed everywhere – including the clubhouses. There is terrific walking around AutoCamp. Catskills even has an awesome hiking trail that loops the camp! Cape Cod is an an awesome rail trail, where pedestrians and pups are also welcomed.

How else is AutoCamp Dog Friendly?

Check out the treats, water bowl, blanket, and suggestions for dog friendly activities that were given to us upon check-in at AutoCamp Cape Cod!

The list of activities and places to go were especially appreciated!

In the clubhouse, AutoCamp provides free granola and coffee for breakfast. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that the granola at both Cape Cod and Catskills is raisin free (raisins are toxic to dogs). Inevitably, granola gets spilled, but you don’t have to worry about your dog hoovering the floor.

We look forward to reporting on our trips to Joshua Tree and Russian River. However, one note: we are finding, sadly, that our US National Parks are not dog friendly. At the National Parks we’ve looked at, including Joshua Tree, dogs are either not allowed on hiking trails or are only allowed on very few/short ones. This will impact decisions for us in the future. For example, when we go to Zion, we’re likely to only stay at AutoCamp 2 nights and then move to another park that is more dog friendly. Or, Rory will have to stay home that trip.
