We recently had the pleasure of visiting and reviewing AutoCamp Russian River. Russian River is the oldest and smallest of all the AutoCamp locations. It was the popularity and success of this property on the Russian River in Sonoma wine country that lead to the 4 more locations that have opened since and the 3 that are coming soon.
See our review of the AutoCamp Russian River. You’ll see why we absolutely loved it! It’s now our favorite AutoCamp location. Do note, this is a tiny campground surrounded by a neighborhood. We explain about that here.
Below, we’re going to tour EVERY AutoCamp Russian River campsite location and review them, including a video tour of the entire AutoCamp Russian River campground.
AutoCamp Russian River Review of Camp Site Locations
First, let’s have a look at the big picture:
Please note the key:
- Airstream Classic: 1 – 6 and 24
- Airstream Redwood Suite: 8 and 11
- Premium Airstream: 7 – 23
- Tents: 25 – 34
- Happier Camper: 35
As you can see, the campground is shaped like a horseshoe. The parking lot is at the bottom. The horseshoe goes around the clubhouse. The center of the horseshoe is the beautiful lawn. Note: dogs are not allowed on the lawn. As a dog owner, I understand! It’s a beautiful center piece and should be kept “clean” for socializing, kids playing, lawn games, etc.
Campsites 1 – 6 and 24 are Classic level. This is all you need at Russian River, UNLESS you want a hot tub, then you’ll get a Redwood Suite. There are only two – campsites 8 and 11. Check our video to see them and the privacy benefit of campsite 8 over 11.
Note this photo, above. It’s old. ALL the vegetation is now very grown in, offering tons of privacy (by AutoCamp standards) for almost all campsites (see video, at bottom). But this gives you a sense of how that left, outside horseshoe is set up.
Here is a photo from April 2023: mature vegetation. You can’t even see the Airstreams except when you walk past them.
Premiums are campsites 7 – 23. Yes, they back up to Hulbert Creek, but the price difference makes it really not worth it. See our post on the levels of lodging at AutoCamp: Classic, Premium, Vista (called Redwood Suite at AutoCamp Russian River).
The Happier Camper is adorable and usually the same price as the tent. Benefit: solid sides in case the thought of wildlife creeps you out. (We don’t think bear are an issue like they will be at AutoCamp Asheville). We think you’re far better off in a spacious tent. Neither have bathrooms. You’ll be using the clubhouse.
The glamping tents: They’re all fantastic, but 30 and 31 are “double deckered” – sort of sandwiched between the Airstreams and the ones facing the lawn. Request NOT to be in 30 or 31. They really should discount those.
Finally, there is ONE and only one X Suite at AutoCamp Russian River. We’re huge fans of the X Suite! Let us tell you why. Just one caveat: at AutoCamp Russian River, the one and only X suite is rather exposed, on the end, so it has minimal privacy. See that map, up top.

Conclusion
We’re big, big fans of AutoCamp Russian River, as you can tell! We absolutely loved the Guerneville area. There is tons to do, very nearby. If we weren’t so busy fitting in our upcoming trip to AutoCamp Zion and our 2024 trips to AutoCamp Asheville, AutoCamp Hill Country, and AutoCamps Sequoia and Yosemite, we’d absolutely be itching to get back there. Maybe someday!
