Update
Well, what’s a few years between friends? It looks like Sequoia will finally open in March 2025.
Thanks to our visitor Chris for these update on AutoCamp Sequoia.
Chris tells us that AutoCamp Sequoia is situated at the former Sequoia Campground and Lodge. Not only does the address match what we have reported, but the domain sequoiacampground.com now redirects to https://autocamp.com/location/sequoia/.
Chris reports that he has both camped in an RV and also a tent at that location. He says,
The river is beautiful in the summer time there, the location is right on the edge of the town of Three Rivers and actually right where the 3 rivers merge together.
Let’s take a look at what we know about the AutoCamp Sequoia location including what the price history is for the property, the history of the location, and the pros and cons of the property. And drumroll….when will it open?!
AutoCamp Sequoia Location – price History
Isn’t it great to easily check the online sites to see what a property sold for or what it is currently worth? We took a look at Realtor.com and learned that the 18 acre property sold for $4.2 million in 2017. Was that really AutoCamp who bought it in 2017? We don’t think so. In a reply to a Yelp review, the property was under “new ownership” in 2018.
The reviews got really bad and the campground seems to have stopped operating as Sequoia Campground and Lodge in summer of 2022, based on the Yelp reviews and feedback. It’s likely they sold to AutoCamp in the 2021/2022 time frame. Remember, AutoCamp Sequoia was announced in July 2022.
Chances are, AutoCamp paid about the same, possibly more, than that $4.2 million for 17.5 acres.
Autocamp Sequoia Location -Property History
Yes, the new AutoCamp Sequoia location is situated on the former grounds of Sequoia Camground and Lodge. Why are we excited about this? Our favorite AutoCamp locations are situated on former campgrounds.
AutoCamp Cape Cod and AutoCamp Catskills were the first 2 locations we visited, and we loved them both. We particularly loved the AutoCamp Catskills property because of the many mature trees and spacing between campsites. Plus, there was an awesome 1 mile hiking trail in the woods, looping the property.
AutoCamp Russian River is actually our favorite location, but it’s also the oldest, so the property has very mature trees – including redwoods!
AutoCamp Joshua Tree and Zion were built on raw land. They will both need many years to develop some privacy and sense of nature. Joshua Tree likely will always feel like it’s in the middle of the desert because it is!
The upcoming AutoCamp Asheville is also located on a former campground, so we’re excited about that. The location sounds great, and we will be visiting in the fall.
AutoCamp Sequoia Location – Pros and Cons
We took at look at the Yelp reviews for Sequoia Campground and Lodge.
Pros
The reviews all are positive about the location and setting:
I would like to give 5 stars to this campsite for being great in terms of location and scenic enviroment. Since it’s right on the river and in close proximity to the entrance to Sequoia National Park, it makes it one of the best camping and lodging choices.

The camp sites are great, and some are right on the river. . . The resort has it’s own personal beach as well and you can float down the river although you can’t float too far otherwise you float into private property.
It is located incredibly close to the entrance of the sequoia forest (Sequoia National Park) so you could even do a day trip there.

Cons
However, there are many comments about how tight the individual camping spots are and how few trees there are on the property for shade:
The sites are small and close together, so the peak season crowd was overwhelming and it felt uncomfortably packed.

AutoCamp Sequioa Location – Opening Date
Our site visitor Chris also informed us:
The lodge is under construction and other building slabs are finished.
Yikes, considering it’s supposed to open “mid-2024,” this does not sound very advanced or promising for a mid-2024 opening. If they miss the opening, it will be the 4th delay in opening. They’ve already delayed 3 times.
AutoCamp Sequoia Location – Conclusion
Obviously, AutoCamp will have the ability to start with a clean slate in terms of re-designing the current campground to be what they want it to be. However, given their other properties, of course there will be many Airstreams, X Suites, and likely, tents. In size, it will be most like AutoCamp Zion in size.
Personally, I’m super excited for Sequoia to open. We are hoping to visit both AutoCamp Yosemite and Sequoia in the same trip. As of now, Yosemite is the only AutoCamp we have not visited. With this planned trip, hopefully in September, along with AutoCamp Asheville in early November, we will have then visited EVERY AutoCamp!
