AutoCamp Zion was our 5th AutoCamp Visit in 14 months! We had been hoping to visit back when we drove cross country in March and April, but it was late opening, missing the mark of “early 2023” when it opened on May 1, 2023. Of the 4 new AutoCamp locations scheduled to open in 2023, it was the only one to actually open up! So, we made lemonade and added a trip to not just Zion but Bryce to our travel plans this year.
AutoCamp Zion REview
First, please note that, as is the case with all AutoCamp locations, you can only park in designated parking. They do have electric chargers. The parking area is behind a gate to the property. They’ll text you the code on the day of your check-in. You cannot park near your campers or suites. We are big fans of this. It is safer, less noisy, and the campground stays classy.
The clubhouse is directly in front of the parking area.
We’ve labeled the community spaces on this map. The pool is the most obvious. The 3 brownish spaces are delineated as noted in this image.
The meeting space is for corporate meetings, private parties, etc. There are both indoor and outdoor areas.
Take our video tour:
AutoCamp Zion Drone Overview
Here is a terrific drone video of the entire property:
Note: all vegetation is newly planted! This campground is going to look very different in a few years. Right now, it resembles AutoCamp Joshua Tree, but it won’t stay like that. Joshua Tree is literally a desert. AutoCamp Zion just looks like that temporarily. The plants and trees just need some time to mature. We noted this about AutoCamp Russian River – they have very mature vegetation (separate from the Redwoods!), and it makes a big difference to giving the space more of a campground feel rather than a bunch of Airstreams in an open field.
AutoCamp Zion Clubhouse
The clubhouse at AutoCamp Zion is beautiful. As noted, above, it is really split into 2 sections: the private party/meeting space, and the main clubhouse. Let’s look at the main clubhouse (click on photos to enlarge):
As you can see, there is the iconic indoor fireplace that exists at all AutoCamp locations. The bar area and decor are all similar to all the other open AutoCamp locations.
Beer and wine are available at the breakfast bar, as is a limited food menu. The “kitchen” is a weak point at AutoCamp in general. It seems most of the food is heated – not cooked. There does not seem to be a plan to offer a true restaurant or dining to the AutoCamp brand. This is unfortunate since Under Canvas, a strong competitor to AutoCamp that is just a few minutes away, does offer a true dining experience.
Autocamp Zion Pool
The AutoCamp Zion pool was fantastic! They provide many lounges and umbrellas plus all the towels you’d want. You can’t beat the views!
The pool is on the back left side of the building in the photo, above.
AutoCamp Zion General Store
The General Store is almost identical to all the AutoCamp General Stores at all the other AutoCamp locations. It is very well stocked for all essentials for adults, kids, and pets. We found the fridges and freezers at AutoCamp Zion to be particularly well stocked. However, remember, you’ll be paying a big premium when purchasing on site. We always make a point to buy beer, wine, and basic groceries before heading to AutoCamp. Check out our Pro Tips.
AutoCamp Zion Conclusion
AutoCamp has done a fine job with AutoCamp Zion. The heart of the clubhouse looks and feels like all the other properties. It’s one of the more spacious clubhouses – and it’s far more spacious than Joshua Tree’s clubhouse which is far too small for a campground that size. The pool is fantastic and in a great location.
It’s interesting to note that the meeting/party space is now in a physically separate building. It will be interesting got see if this trends continues in future AutoCamp locations.
