Classic, Premium, Vista – Which Should You Book at AutoCamp?

If you haven’t yet reviewed all the types of accommodations at AutoCamp, be sure to read that article first.

Once you determine which type of accommodation you are interested in, your next decision point is about money! Classic, Premium, Vista – Which Should You Book at AutoCamp? We’re going to see what AutoCamp has to say about the differences, but we’ll give you a sneak peak: it’s a lot about money, more than anything else.

Classic, Premium, Vista – Location, location, location

What are the levels of accommodations?

CLASSIC – is AutoCamp’s cheapest version in each category of accommodation, whether it’s an Airstream, X Suite, Luxury Glamping Tent, or Cabin.

So what makes it “cheap”? Someone at AutoCamp thought it wasn’t the most private and/or scenic location in that park. That’s it.

So then what is the PREMIUM level? Someone at AutoCamp thought the location was a little bit better than the Classic level – yet not as scenic and/or private as the next and final level: VISTA, which you’d think would have signficantly more privacy or scenery. As it turns out, that’s not always the case. Keep reading….

Let me reiterate: the accommodations are identical ! There are very, very few exceptions. One example: there are just a couple of X Suites or Airstreams at Joshua Tree that have outdoor showers. Another example is the Russian River Redwood Suites:

These are outliers. Otherwise, every X Suite looks and is equipped like every other X Suite.

We priced out stays at AutoCamp Catskills and AutoCamp Joshua Tree for our examples – East Coast and West Coast. Let’s look at examples of pricing differences by level for these locations.

Price Differences In Classic, Premium, Vista- AutoCamp Catskills

We did a price check on AutoCamp Catskills, August 11 – 13, 2023. Here the images of the costs:

One category does not seem to be available: Classic X Suite. They always seem to be the same price as the Classic Airstream. However, based on the levels, below, we can extrapolate that it would be $504.

So let’s focus on the most popular accommodations: the Airstreams and the X Suites

Classic Airstream – $463
Premium Airstream – $517
Vista Airstream – $557

Classic X Suite – $504
Premium X Suite – $544
Vista X Suite – $584

Now, the question – Is it worth upgrading to Premium? To Vista?

Conclusion – Do not pay for Vista or Premium

While some of the premiums and Vista level accommodations have some advantages over the Classics, our experience at the 4 AutoCamp locations we have been to, to-date, is that the Classics are the best. They’re the lowest price and often are just as good in terms of scenery or privacy as the Premiums and Vistas. For the few Premiums and Vistas that stand out as somewhat significantly better than the Classics, it’s not worth the roll of the dice that you’ll actually get that campsite. AutoCamp will not let you book a specific campsite.
