Glamping Options Near Zion

We recently visited AutoCamp Zion and Zion National Park, and we were surprised to find there are terrific – and very nearby – glamping options near Zion for AutoCamp. Wildflower Resort and Under Canvas are both within minutes of AutoCamp, making Virgin, Utah, the place for glamping near Zion National Park.

Glamping Competition at Zion: AutoCamp, Wildflower Resort, Under Canvas

Glamping Options Near Zion: AUTOCAMP

Description

We made this trip to visit AutoCamp Zion, of course. AutoCamp Zion offers their luxury, custom Airstreams, X Suites, and Basecamps for larger groups. Basecamp is a combo of an Airstream plus a luxury tent. You cannot rent the tent individually, as you can at other locations.

Amenities

AutoCamp worked hard to create a large list of amenities:

  • Flat-screen television, plus built-in audio system with Bluetooth
  • Heating and air conditioning
  • Kitchen area with mini refrigerator, microwave, dishware, and glassware
  • Luxe bath amenities by Ursa Major
  • Luxury linens and bath towels
  • Modern spa-inspired bathroom with walk-in shower and vanity sink (not in the tents)
  • Private patio with grill, firepit, and dining area
  • Queen bed with high-thread-count linens
  • Sleeps one to three adults, or two adults and two children
  • Soft sofa converts into a comfortable full bed with linens
  • Queen bed and flat-screen television
  • Accessible kitchenette with induction stovetop and mini-refrigerator for meal prep (X Suites only)
  • Outdoor fire pit with grill (X Suites only)
  • Access to Signature Clubhouse bathrooms (Tents do not include adjoining bathrooms)
  • Two Community firepits
  • Community pool

Price

PRICE: we looked to book June 17 – 20, 2024 (3 nights). The price ranges from $278 for a classic Airstream – $450 per night for a Basecamp (Airstream plus tent). This is without taxes or fees.

Glamping Options Near Zion: Under Canvas

Description

Under Canvas is a glamping resort chain, as is AutoCamp. Under Canvas Zion is located on 196 acres of remote desert terrain 20 miles from the entrance to Zion National Park – just a few miles north and west from AutoCamp (farther from Zion).

En route to Kolob Canyon – the west section of Zion National park, Under Canvas is surrounded by views of soaring sandstone cliffs, majestic red rock, and wide-open desert skies, Under Canvas Zion offers upscale amenities. Guests stay in fully furnished safari-style tents complete with cozy beds, linens, rugs, lighting, and private ensuite bathrooms. Tent options range from standard to deluxe suites with king beds.

Amenities

Under Canvas has a few advantages over AutoCamp Zion. First, they have more “experiences” (all paid) than AutoCamp Zion. However, keep in mind that AutoCamp Zion just opened on May 1, so their offerings should improve in time.

Under Canvas has far better food options for both breakfast and lunch/dinner. AutoCamp Zion seems to just microwave food, rather than actually prepare and cook food.

We couldn’t find free entertainment at Under Canvas, but we were disappointed there was no music, no food trucks, no wine or beer tastings at AutoCamp Zion. They didn’t even turn on the outside firepits.

Price

PRICE: we looked to book June 17 – 20, 2024 (3 nights). The price ranges from $459 – $1159 per night. This is without taxes or fees.

Under Canvas or AutoCamp?

There are several advantages of AutoCamp Zion:

  1. Airstreams and X Suites first and foremost! While the AutoCamp Airstream is unlike consumer models of the Airstream, they are fantastic. We LOVE the X Suite – especially for rainy or snowy environments, and Zion is certainly in that category.
  2. The price difference, and AutoCamp wins the competition, hands down.
  3. Last, AutoCamp is 20 minutes closer to the main section of Zion National Park (see map, above).

Disadvantage of AutoCamp: dining. Under Canvas offers better food options for those who want to eat on site but not cook.

Given this, it’s clear to us: stay at AutoCamp instead of Under Canvas.

Glamping Options Near Zion: Wildflower Resort

Description

Wildflower Resort is directly across the road from AutoCamp Zion. This is the view from the road:

Like Under Canvas, they offer a variety of levels of glamping tents. Like AutoCamp, they offer a a bungalow similar to the X Suite. Unlike the others, they offer Conestoga-like wagons!

Amenities

Amenities include:

  • Luxury Bathhouses (for those without private baths)
  •  Bicycles
  •  Fire Pits
  •  Pool and Hot Tub
  •  Grills
  •  Swing Set
  •  Cornhole
  •  Ping Pong
  •  Movie Nights
  •  Live Music
  •  Yoga
  •  Star Gazing
  • Complimentary WiFi

Price

PRICE: we looked to book June 17 – 20, 2024 (3 nights). The price ranges from $186 – $226 per night. This is without taxes or fees.

The lowest price is for their Covered Conestoga-like Wagon. It has a king-sized bed and one twin bunk bed. They provide a bbq and air conditioning. They offer a pool and hot tub. They are pet friendly. They do not have private bathrooms.

Their most expensive tent is the “Western Wallflower”.

These bungalows have two cozy queen-sized beds with a large private shower and bathroom, mini fridge, microwave, Keurig Coffee maker, and private deck with rocking chairs. In addition to the private bath, they have a microwave and mini-fridge along with air conditioning. They offer a pool and hot tub.

Wildflower Resort or AutoCamp?

Advantages:

  1. At this stage of the game, based on our experience, Wildflower offers far more entertainment and on-site amenities.
  2. Wildflower offers Conestoga wagons.
  3. Wildflower offers tents with private bathrooms.
  4. Wildflower is much more economical.

Disadvantages:

  1. No on-site dining.

Conclusion

AutoCamp Zion offered free morning yoga while we were there, but we did not see evidence of it anywhere. The camp was quite empty. There were very few people there. This was likely due to the fact that they just opened in May. Also, we went in September, so most kids are back in school. However, they really do need to create that camping community vibe that AutoCamp Russian River is so good at. Get some food trucks. At a minimum, have some free music, and turn on the firepits!

Wildflower and Under Canvas are far more established and seem to have a strong following and strong community entertainment and offerings.

Given all the above, we think AutoCamp is an easy choice over Under Canvas. However, we think Wildflower Resort offers a great deal to seriously consider for those who want a more economical glamping experience with pretty much all the same offerings – and even more offerings like private tents with private baths or Conestoga Wagons. The only downside was there is no on-site food.

We’re fans of AutoCamp, having now visited 5 of the 6 open locations in 14 months, but fair is fair: Wildflower Resort offers a great glamping option near Zion for those who want to glamp independently.
