Hurricane Helene AutoCamp Asheville Impact

We were about to write an article about the upcoming trip to AutoCamp Asheville in early November, but then there was Hurricane Helene. As is the case with much of the Asheville area, AutoCamp Asheville is suffering from the storm impact. AutoCamp Asheville will not be opening this year.

Hurricane Helene AutoCamp Asheville Impact – the Official Word

While there is nothing yet posted on the official AutoCamp Asheville website, we have heard from AutoCamp regarding our trip:

AutoCamp Asheville is experiencing power outages and has sustained damage to the property that requires immediate repairs. As a result, this has further delayed the opening date. We understand this may disrupt your travel plans, and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. 

Hurricane Helene AutoCamp Asheville Impact – the French Broad River

A reminder as to the location of AutoCamp Asheville:

AutoCamp Asheville is located on the French Broad River, which experienced severe flooding due to Hurricane Helene.

Based on information regarding the French Broad River, we are deeply concerned that AutoCamp Asheville may have experienced a catastrophic loss, as many along the river and beyond have experienced:.

The local newspaper, The Citizen Time’s, article Full scope of Helene devastation not clear as recovery underway: ‘Our hearts are broken’ details the extent of the horrific damage in the area.:

Houses floated away from subdivisions. Bridges crumbled. The flood waters flipped semi-trucks into mangled piles. Mud and tree branches and food from local grocery stores flowed into the streets.

Hurricane Helene AutoCamp Asheville Impact – How You Can Help

No one was vacationing at AutoCamp Asheville because it had not opened yet. The staff lives locally, the contractors who were working on the campground live locally. All the people of Western North Carolina are desperately in need of help.
