We previously covered the nationwide glamping resort competition for AutoCamp along with additional competition specific to Yosemite, but now there is another major player – very major – that offers a real alternative to AutoCamp. Yes, there is more glamping competition, and they are called Postcard Cabins.
Glamping Competition for AutoCamp: Postcard Cabins Locations
First, of all . . . WOW! They already have a ton of locations!
Like AutoCamp’s model of being within a half day’s drive from major cities, Postcard Cabins also advertises their proximity to cities:
At Postcard Cabins, we believe in bringing nature closer to you. Just a short drive from the city, our cabins offer a peaceful retreat where you can relax, recharge and write your own adventure.
With 29 destinations across the U.S., Postcard Cabins are located within a 2-hour drive of major cities like L.A., New York, Chicago, Seattle, Dallas and more—making it easier than ever to disconnect from the everyday and reconnect with nature. Set on expansive private woodlands, each location is thoughtfully designed to offer the beauty and simplicity worthy of a postcard.

Glamping Competition for AutoCamp: Postcard Cabins Lodging
Here’s the big difference: AutoCamp has garned soooo much press and soooo many Instagram and TikTok posts centered around their custom Airstreams. However, we’re huge fans of the AutoCamp Cabins (previously called “X Suites”).
Postcard Cabins . . . yup, are cabins! Actually, they are far more cabin-like than the AutoCamp cabins. Let’s see how they compare.
Rates
We are going to use Postcard Cabins Western Catskills as our example to compare to AutoCamp Catskills. We’ll picked the date of June 1 – 4, 3 nights, for 2 adults.
Postcard Cabins Cancelation Policy:
- Booking payments are fully refundable up to 15 days prior to check-in.
- Bookings canceled less than 14 days prior to check in cannot be refunded.
- Modifications to your reservation dates within the 3-14 day window prior to your arrival, including rescheduling or shortening your reservation, will incur a $50 change fee.
We chose the most expensive option
So we chose the cabin formerly known as an X Suite, which is most like the Postcard Cabins cabin for a similar cancelation policy, the “AutoCamp Web Rate Our lowest, non-restricted rate”.
AutoCamp WINS!
However, keep in mind, if you want to save money, you have options for cabins that don’t have an extra bunk or other amenities to keep the price down. AutoCamp does not offer that.
This is the least expensive option for those dates:
Not a world of difference for a 3 night stay.
Additionally, Postcard Cabins takes the backseat to AutoCamp in a few ways: size, luxury, and overall campground amenities.
Size
Postcard Cabins is far smaller than AutoCamp at 140 – 200 square feet. The AutoCamp cabin/X Suite is far larger at 275 square feet.
Luxury
In part due to how small they are, the Postcard Cabins are not as upscale or luxurious as the AutoCamp cabins/X suites.
They both offer kitchens with cooktops, bathrooms, beds…Both have outdoor patios with furniture and firepits, but that is where the similarities end.
AutoCamp prides themselves on luxury with beautiful tile bathrooms, big screen TVs, internet, and more. The Postcard Cabins cabins are very basic. The AutoCamp cabins are pretty darned luxurious with their wide screen TVs, power window shades, and huge tile bathrooms. One very prominent difference: a “living room”. Postcard Cabins is a bed, a small kitchen, and a bathroom. AutoCamp gives you a large futon and big screen TV for when you don’t want to be in bed.
Overall Amenities
We couldn’t find information on the Catskills property beyond the cabin description. We don’t know … is there a clubhouse, communal property, entertainment, store…anything?
AutoCamp’s clubhouses and amenities are truly awesome. THIS is glamping. At the Catskills property, you’ll find:
- amazing “experiences” from free yoga, music, and games – to local outfitters and craft workshops
- dining options if you don’t want to cook or go out to eat, including free granola, coffee, and tea for breakfast
- communal spaces like the clubhouse, meeting or event spaces, community firepits indoors and out,
Glamping Competition for AutoCamp: Conclusion
Honestly, when I began this article, I was thinking that Postcard Cabins was a less expensive, great alternative to AutoCamp. Now, I think AutoCamp is looking great! I love, love, love those cabins/X Suites, and the overall services offered just really sets AutoCamp heads and shoulders above.
If you’ve experienced both AutoCamp and Postcard Cabins, I’d love to hear from you and get your opinion!
We’ll continue to scan the marketplace to see what other glamping competition arises for AutoCamp!
