Neil Dipaola, AutoCamp Founder and CEO, said earlier in 2022 that there are 15 new AutoCamp locations in the works on top of the original 5 locations: Catskills, Cape Cod, Joshua Tree, and Yosemite. AutoCamp plans to have locations within a half day’s drive of the top 25 major metro areas across the U.S.
Given this, we at AutoCamp Reviews would like to suggest an absolutely ideal location.
Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area
For those not familiar, Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is location 90 minutes west of New York City. It’s located mostly in Warren County and Sussex Counties, New Jersey and also part of the Pocono Mountains, Monroe County, of Pennsylvania. It is also about 2 hours north of Philadelphia.
What makes “The Gap” an ideal location for AutoCamp? In addition to being an easy ride and getaway from both New York and Philadelphia, 2 of the biggest metro areas in the US, there are many reasons!
From Wikipedia:
Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is a 70,000-acre (28,000 ha) national recreation area administered by the National Park Service in northwest New Jersey and northeast Pennsylvania. It is centered around a 40-mile (64 km) stretch of the Delaware River designated the Middle Delaware National Scenic River. At the area’s southern end lays the Delaware Water Gap, a dramatic mountain pass where the river cuts between Blue Mountain and Kittatinny Mountain
More than 4 million people visit the recreation area annually, many from the nearby New York metropolitan area. Canoeing, kayaking, and rafting trips down the river are popular in the summer. Other activities include hiking, rock climbing, swimming, fishing, hunting, camping, cycling, cross-country skiing, and horseback riding. Worthington State Forest and a section of the long-distance Appalachian Trail are located within the area, alongside numerous waterfalls and historic sites. …
The park has significant Native American archaeological sites. In addition, a number of structures remain from early Dutch settlement during the colonial period…
The namesake feature of the recreation area is the prominent Delaware Water Gap, located at the area’s southern end. The Delaware River runs through the gap, separating Pennsylvania’s Mount Minsi on Blue Mountain, elevation 1,461 feet (445 m), from New Jersey’s Mount Tammany on Kittatinny Mountain, elevation 1,527 feet (465 m). The gap is less than 1,000 feet (300 m) wide at river level and less than 1 mile (1.6 km) wide at the ridge line. The river is about 350 feet (110 m) wide at the gap.

Additionally, Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area may very well be designated Delaware Water Gap National Park in the near future. The change in designation will make this already very popular recreation area even more of a destination.
Case closed! Delaware Water Gap is is an absolutely ideal location for a new AutoCamp!
But wait, there’s more…
The hiking is outrageously fantastic. There are over 150 miles of hiking trails in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. If you’re not familiar with the Appalachian Trail, you’re either not from the east coast or not a hiker, so here is some info on the Appalachian Trail:
Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is one of the most popular parks in the national park system. With 4.3 million visitors a year, “The Gap” comes in at #15 on the list of most popular parks out of over 400 properties in the national park system.
The Native American history is rich and powerful. Old Mine Road in The Gap is the oldest road in America, dating back to Colonial Times. There are several preserved villages and buildings within the park that are all worth a visit.
Nearby, the towns of Blairstown and Hackettstown in Warren County offer breweries and diverse restaurants. On the Pennsylvania side, East Stroudsburg and Stroudsburg along with the town of Delaware Water Gap also offer fantastic food, beverage, and entertainment options.
With hiking, biking, paddling, boating, camping, fishing, hunting, picnicking, swimming, rock climbing, waterfalls, history, culture, breweries – all under 2 hours away from both New York City and Philadelphia, we strongly encourage AutoCamp to seek a location near the Delaware Water Gap!
