AutoCamp Current and Soon-to-Open Locations
Why is an unusual AutoCamp location news? Because so far, AutoCamp has made it clear that they are seeking super high traffic areas for their glamping resorts: Catskills Mountains of New York State, Cape Cod, Joshua Tree, Russian River, and Yosemite are all open for business. The camps coming in 2023: Asheville, NC, Hill Country of TX, Sequoia, and Zion.
AutoCamp is on the move, buying up a property near Grand Canyon. The Founder and CEO of AutoCamp said 15 other new properties were being planned and that. “You’re going to see a lot more AutoCamp locations announced here in the relatively short-term future throughout the country.” They are being very deliberate and strategic about expansion and aim to have locations within a half day’s drive of the top 25 major metro areas (my emphasis) across the U.S., as reported in Indepenedent.com.
So when news articles started to pop up about AutoCamp looking to open at an abandoned coal mine in Logan, OH, I did a double-take. Hocking, OH? What’s there? Let’s take a look. This will be one very unusual AutoCamp location!
Unusual AutoCamp Location: Logan, Ohio
A quick look at Wikipedia will tell you – there’s nothing much there. No offense to the fine citizens of Hocking County and Logan, but there is no marquee…anything…there. They have a washboard festival and a marching band festival. It sounds like a charming, quaint old-school American town, but it certainly doesn’t seem to fit the AutoCamp brand of nationally and internationally known locations.
One thing came to mind: it must be close to the Airstream Factory! Nope. It’s over 2 hours away!
Cleveland? The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Football Hall of Fame. Major sports teams! Over 3 hours away!
Hocking County Ohio Tourism
“Tourism” is noted as the major attraction in Hocking County. Clearly, there are many parks, based on the photo above. According to HockingHills.com, the top attractions are:
- Old Man’s Cave
- Stay in Cabin
- Ash Cave
- Cedar Falls
- Canoeing
- Ziplines
- Hiking
- Camping
What does TripAdvisor say are the top activities in what the official website of Hocking Hills says is the “Ohio’s Crown Jewel”?
- Old Man’s Cave
- Ash Cave
- Rock House
- Cedar Falls Hiking Trail
- Conkles Hollow State Nature Preserve
- Hockhocking Adena Bikeway
You get the picture. Very nice, outdoorsy/nature locations.
However, this is not Zion or Bryce or Asheville or Joshua Tree…
Benefit to Logan, Ohio
The benefits to Logan and the county of Hocking are numerous as reported in the Logan Daily on September 27, 2022 and October 11, 2022.
- They’ll get federal funding to help with an abandoned mine property
- They’ll generate an anticipated 40 jobs. Frankly, that estimates seems low for a 150 camp site location. AutoCamp generously staffs both their clubhouses and their maintenance staff teams.
- They’ll generate room taxes and property taxes.
- They’ll be nationally recognized as part of the AutoCamp brand.
There are plenty of complaints from locals, as well, voicing their concerns.
The AutoCamp Brand and Business Model
When push comes to shove, opening this property in Logan, OH does not fit the AutoCamp Brand – metro areas or super high traffic parks or locations.
The Founder and CEO of AutoCamp said that 40 acres would be their optimum property. The lots purchased in Logan, Ohio total just over 100 acres.
So what the hey is going on with AutoCamp getting involved with this location?! Time will tell, but I’d love to hear from others as to what they think this very unusual AutoCamp location might be about. Leave a comment, and share your thoughts!

I’m pretty sure this is going in just down the road from us in Logan! Our family (southern Ohio natives) just purchased 120 acres in 2022 in Logan. We remodeled the existing dilapidated 1940’s farm house on the property and are in the process of building 4 small STR cottages. The property had been purchased several years ago and was used for commercial logging leaving the house abandoned. The trees are filling back in and we used the logging trails to install over 5 miles of hiking and ATV trails. As locals we are excited for y’all to be coming to the Hocking Hills and to soon be our neighbors!
Patty, your property sounds great and like it’s going to be a lot of fun!
Are you seeing any indications of activity on the AutoCamp property? Anything locally happening of note?
We’re independent of AutoCamp. We cover news, reviews, and tips. We’d be very interested in hearing of anything you’re hearing or seeing locally about the possible AutoCamp location.
Thanks – and good luck with your project!
