Where to Eat and Sleep Near Bryce Canyon National Park – Hatch, Utah

We flew from the East Coast to Las Vegas to ultimately visit Zion National Park and stay at AutoCamp Zion. However, we wanted to visit Bryce Canyon National Park, as well. Since our flight landed early – and our outbound flight was also early – we figured we’d drive to the Bryce area and spend two nights, with one full day in between at Bryce before making our way to AutoCamp Zion and Zion National Park.

We stayed in Hatch, Utah, 30 minutes from Bryce Canyon National Park. We’re sharing this because we’re really glad we didn’t stay in Bryce Canyon City, which is a big tourist trap. We did find a general store there where we could get supplies we needed, but we were not impressed otherwise. Bryce Canyon City is full of gimmicky stores, restaurants, and shops.

Hatch, Utah is tiny: two restaurants and one coffee/breakfast shop. Turns out that they were all fantastic! We’re very happy we decided to eat and sleep in Hatch, Utah, and we were very close to Bryce Canyon National Park.

Accommodations in Hatch, Utah

Some of us stayed at Sevier River Ranch and Cattle Company. Sevier is pronounced like severe. We stayed in “The Barn.” The property was gorgeous. You really feel like you’re out on a ranch. The Barn was part of a three unit building that was nothing much to look at, but inside, it was quite nice. Note: you’re on a real farm/ranch. There were mousetraps and spiders. This isn’t a Hilton. We loved it. We saw other guests at a firepit at night. The only negative: it was a little loud from the room attached to ours. However, we recommend it.

Another member of our group stayed at Sevier River Farmhouse. Their website isn’t so great, so you can also see it on Booking.com. Our friend was very, very happy with her room. A few “notes” – it is a basement room/apartment. The owners have very young, active children who can be noisy like typical kids. This is not for everyone.

Dining in Hatch, Utah

We did not expect to eat so well!

The first night, we ate at The Outlaw Saloon. We had fantastic ribs! Their “salad bar,” which is also a potato toppings bar, however, is extremely minimal. Don’t get too invested in it. They had a very cool bar with a few beers on tap – and lots of booze – that had really cool saddles for barstools! Note: you must be over 21. We don’t know if that is a Utah thing or an Outlaw Saloon thing.

Breakfast for the next two mornings was at Sevier Coffee Company. There are only a few seats inside, picnic tables outside, and no table service, but the coffee was very good. The bacon, egg, and cheese croissant sandwich was FANTASTIC! We shared it two ways both mornings because it was so big. Their menu is online.

The Cowboy Steakhouse was a unique dining experience. First – our fault – we didn’t realize they didn’t have beer, wine, or alcohol. The staff all seem to speak only Spanish. They were all super sweet, and the food was excellent! But be prepared to use translate on your phone. Even with that, orders got messed up – food ended up at the wrong table, steaks were cooked to the wrong temps. We were patient, and it was worth it.

Everything we ordered was wonderful – peach and burrata appetizer along with deviled eggs for apps. Strip steak with roast carrots as a side was wonderful. Lots of garlic and chimichurri on the carrots. The other entree was the winner, though: tenderloin saltados.

If you’re not familiar with Lomo Saltados, “The dish is normally prepared by marinating sirloin strips in vinegar, soy sauce, and spices, then stir frying these with red onions, parsley, tomatoes, and possibly other ingredients. The use of both potatoes (which originated in Peru) and rice (which originated in Asia) as starches are typical of the cultural blending that the dish represents.”

It was WONDERFUL! Very, very flavorful.

COnclusion: Eat and Sleep in Hatch, Utah when Visiting Bryce Canyon National Park

We can’t recommend this enough: eat and sleep in Hatch, Utah when visiting Bryce Canyon National Park. Did we mention it was one THIRD the price of the two Best Western options in Bryce Canyon City? That was a bonus.

We didn’t feel like we were in a tourist trap. Our accommodations and our food were fantastic. And, the prices were fantastic! A win all the way around.
